Suggestions
Any suggestions on free programs to get started with electronic music production?

Bleek 5/22/2006 9:00:10 PM
update
You can now find my music at http://music.download.com/bleekii ,because the hosting cost of a site I just started I had to drop "bleek-ii.com". One of my better tracks is named "Starman Dance" if you want to check it out.

The site.
You can find my site at bleek-ii.com . My music is't great but it's a good start...I think. None of the tracks are the same so tell me what you think of them...if you want, It would be good to hear what a pro thinks of them. The site needs a lot of work and is best viewed in Firefox. bloodbath is right, it would be good to hear your art form in the art of gaming.

Gamers love you.
Ever since 2004 when I first heard your music on CNET, I've thought about how great it'd be to hear it in video games. You're a master of atmosphere, and I imagine that'd be very attractive to game developers.

A note from a fan
Your music rocks. It's just that simple. Bleek got me into it shortly after he got it. I listen to it often while I am gaming. Bleek, you should have built that crazy instrument. You always have the most insane ideas. You should post the link for your site here so the rest of us can see your progress.

later,
Sen

I got music, woot.
I've been making my own music lately and I think it's turning out pretty good so far. I got that sound card I was always talking about but the instrument never really paned out and now lays as a pile of parts in my house. I'm going to start my own web site soon for my music, photography, and blog. I will give you the link to my music when I get it up on the web.

Thanks,
Bleek II

my current means of promotion...
brings anywhere between 500-10000 hits / music downloads per day. i.d say it.s fairly effective.

distribution channels are currently being negotiated. in the meantime, http://cdbaby.com is the primary distributor of my cd.s.

Your target?
What is your sales target for the end of 2005? (In number of CDs)

Traffic
Now that you are receiving money from your music you might want to look in to getting more traffic on this site. I wasn’t able to come up with any good ideas but you might come up with some.
If you decide to advertise on other sites, you should aim for music sites or high traffic geek sites like slashdot (I'm not certain how much that would cost) but only if you think you could earn a profit from the advertisement. Oh I got to go now, I’ll keep you informed.

I told you so. :-P
Mmm... Good reviews, as I said your music’s good. Anyway I’ve been running through a few concept designs and I need your advice as a musician. What would you like to see in an instrument? You know just some random ideas or whatever. Oh, fedora core is shit I’m going mandrack. I’ll keep you informed.

creatures
Hey. I got Linux installed a few days back and all by my little self (hands for me ). I sill can’t figure out how to get some things working like files, internet, etc but a friend said she would help me out this weekend. Oh…I had enough money to buy the new sound card I need... but... well...I was at biglots... when it happened… these creatures... they came from ceiling... and they started chucking deals at me... I whipped my trusty shotgun... got one in the leg and then the head... but they were smart little fuckers, moving from shelf to shelf... all I heard was two grunts and patter of their feet and they were on me *snap* like that, with their 70% off and clearance sale trickery. WHAT! you don’t believe me?...oh... Well, to make a long story short; I walked out of that store with a nice pair of headphones and a couple of good games for $20. Anyway despite of some small set backs I should have my new sound card and instrument soon.
I’ll keep you informed.

how long?
depends on the track...

i tend to not spend too much time doing any one single thing...there.s always something new to explore. so my music tends to suffer the slings of that a.d.d. nature. i would love to spend more time developing and producing these tracks, but i just don.t have it right now...typically track such as ..sonogram.. takes about 4-6 hours to put together from conception to final mastering. then it.s time to burn it to cd, then drive it around and listen to it on repeat for a while in the car. if all is good, then it.s a done deal. other times, the car ride exposes sonic / production / compositional flaws, which i go back and change for a second version...

other times it takes several revisions...and a lot more time. but that.s the typical process.

sleepy, sleepy
I just got my computer setup after a LAN last night. No sleep, more caffeine, bang, bang, sums up the night, although I did crash for a couple of hours under their kitchen table (|=uckn linoleum! the pain!). It’s cool to see more free music but I’ll still buy the tracks that you don’t release in the promo section. Sonogram is 5\/\/337, how long (on an average) does it take you to make a track? Anyway I’m going to logoff and install Linux soon (Fedora Core 3 x86-64…In case you were wondering.). I was going see if a friend could help because this is my first time installing a Linux OS but she hasn’t been around of late. I think I can handle it… I built this l337 machine by hand… but the hardest thing on the software side I’ve had to deal with is windows… Oh |=uck, a monkey with its hands stuck up its ass and only one foot due to an recent office injury involving a can of hair spray, an open flame, a dancing gecko, and a mind consuming demon could install and setup windows (as long as is doesn’t crash. Well that’s about all.

ah...money
it.s a strange thing [to me] to be charging for my tunes, but it is a necessary shift at this point in my career.

my music will be available on iTunes, napster, etc. probably in about a month or two. i will definitely keep the site updated with more news as it happens.

i.m still interested to see what develops with your project...

Bleek…unconscious.

more info...
I’m happy to hear about the commercial release of dword ( No more |=|233 5\/\/337 music 4/\/\3 *Crushes old heat sink hand*.). Will your music be on internet music stores like iTunes and so on…? Oh, I should probably explain my instrument a little better.
It is an experiment in making an instrument that is simpler to learn and play for /\/0085 (like me) but gives more capabilities to the real musicians (not me… yet). I other words streamlining thing not watering them down but I have very little money so like most “interesting” projects I will have to get most of the stuff second hand and the results are usually ugly but functional. Anyway, I hope your music sells well. I know I’ll buy any new stuff that you come out with.
I’ll keep you informed.

live electronics

and i was more than happy to add the message forums!

Bleek 2/28/2005 10:18:34 AM
Thank you Damien. :)
It’s great to see some one who responds to their fans.
If you’re wondering about the name “Bleek” (probably not) It’s a abbreviated version of my real name “B. Lee K. II” but I usually leave the “the 2nd” part out.
Anyway, I’m in the process constructing new instrument for live electronic music but it might be a month or two before I have enough money to complete it.
I’ll keep you informed.

Bleek out.
